Cheaper Home Batteries Program

You Could Unlock Bigger Energy Savings with Government-Backed Battery Incentives

Available from July 2025, the Cheaper Home Batteries Program offers eligible Australian households and small businesses up to 30% off the cost of installing small-scale solar battery systems, helping store renewable energy and reduce electricity bills.

Eligible Australians can access a federal rebate of up to $3,720 on a 10kWh battery system, making it more affordable than ever to store your solar energy and reduce your power bills.

This is great news for homeowners and small businesses looking to maximise their solar investment, with eligible households able to access up to $372 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of usable battery capacity (before administration fees and charges) – potentially saving thousands on upfront costs.

How the Rebate Works*

You may also upgrade or expand an existing battery system if it hasn’t previously received the rebate and the added capacity is at least 5kWh.

Key Info about the Cheaper Home Battery Rebate:

The Rebate Will Apply to:

  • Batteries between 5kWh and 50kWh (You can install systems up to 100 kWh and still receive the rebate for a 50kWh system).
  • Installed at homes, small businesses, or community buildings.
  • Installations where solar is already present on the premises (new or existing solar).
  • Off-grid installations can receive the rebate.

For a battery to be eligible, it must:

  • Be approved by the Clean Energy Council and installers must have appropriate battery installation accreditation.
  • Have a minimum of 5kWh of usable capacity under the rebate program and a maximum amount of usable capacity of 100kWh (The rebate only applies to the first 50kWh of battery capacity).
  • Solar batteries must be capable of connecting to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP), but there’s no requirement to join a VPP.

*Australian Government incentive: From 1 July 2025, incentives for batteries are available to eligible households under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). For further details, including full eligibility criteria, see https://cer.gov.au/batteries. New South Wales: The amount shown above is not a deduction from this Quotation. Rather, it is an estimate of an incentive that eligible NSW homeowners may be able to receive under the NSW Government’s Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS). The BESS2 incentive requires connection of an eligible home battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). Interested homeowners should contact their desired VPP operator to receive an accurate estimate and to access the incentive.
